Okay, so I’m working on a couple projects alongside Willow Wood. This one is a much more personal project in a lot of ways.

I was talking to my mother the other day, and she wondered about that story with which I was also so enamored, and so I told her - Andersen wrote that there was once a little sea-princess who lived on the stories her sisters always told her of a world over the ocean that was bright and beautiful, and that she longed to go. My mother goes, “Oh. She sounds just like me.”

So now I’m aiming to conflate and, I suppose, to juxtapose Andersen’s themes of cultural transition, sacrifices, queer love, and silent suffering with my family’s immigration narrative. It’s going to require a ton of research, but I can’t wait to see how it turns out.

And look! I’ve even started designing my own text frames. I’m hoping that learning about digital typeface and design composition will improve my webcomicking skills for Willow Wood, too.

It must take you so long to draw all those lines. I love how your work initially gives off an old fashioned vibe, like the original sketches from fairytale books, but there's something about your style that gives it all a modern twist. I would love to see how you tackle backgrounds!

Thank you! I draw a lot of inspiration from Harry Clarke and Arthur Rackham. And yes! I need to challenge myself to do more environments and backgrounds.

Ah I should have recognised the Rackham influence! Don't worry, I never bother with background either ^^; I just imagine your style would suit trees and flowers so well because it's so delicate and pay so much attention to fine lines. Anyway, keep up the good work! :)
