Arizona might find me "suspicious."

By law, the State of Arizona now permits authorities to pull me over because the color of my skin or the slant of my eyes or the prominence of my nosebridge are all causes for "reasonable suspicion."

Racial profiling is now legal in Arizona.

Also, English teachers in AZ now need to pass "fluency tests" because their foreign accents might give them the wrong idea about how english should be spoken.

Also, schools in AZ are now banned from teaching ethnic studies. Who needs the Texas Board of Education when you can omit various parts from history yourself?

I'm angry.

Its already a law in america that police question immigration status. SB1070(which i assume your talking about) makes it a requirement. Arizona has a really big illigal immigrant problem. And its already a law for immigrants to have there papers with them. And even if you dont have your papers and you came here from another country legally its already and still is a law that they cant free you untill the federal goverments confirms your a citizen.

It's certainly not a problem that citizenship or legal residence be confirmed; it's the law, it has to happen. The only thing is that it will never happen to a Western European expatriate or a Canadian as they're passing through town. It will happen to a person of color, in this case Latinos. The pressing question, then, is always, "If they're legal citizens, why are they afraid of getting checked?" Well, even if one is a legal citizen, getting held up until some long-running bureaucratic process says, "Ok, we believe you. You have the papers," means that you can't work, you can't support your families, you can't make it to that doctor's appointment, etc.

And that's not even counting the ridiculous number of American-born Latino citizens who get deported by mistake.

So, no, following the law is following the law. Making a new law that says racial profiling is ok is a bit problematic.

I dont get how AZ could do this! I didn't know about this until now, but now I'm angry too... I feel like marching straight there and slapping somebody. This is just insane.

Don’t ever judge someone, because they might be fighting a harder battle.

I should be doing homework right now.

Yeah, it's really unfortunate. There's been some sense of awareness and fairness now, but the weird xenophobic sentiment has kind of been spreading all over the country. I'm kind of worried!
